What artificial intelligence is (and is not)
Artificial intelligence is the field of getting computer systems to do tasks that usually require human intelligence: understanding text, recognizing images, translating, making recommendations.
Today, when people say “chat tool”, they usually mean programs based on large language models. They learn the patterns of language from a huge amount of text and generate text that fits your question.
An important difference: these programs do not “know” things the way a person does, and they have no feelings. They are useful assistants, but not the only source of facts.
Remember
- Artificial intelligence is a broad field; chat tools are just one form of it.
- The result is useful, but not always correct.
- Final responsibility stays with the user.
Exercise
Which of these is the right attitude toward a chat tool?
Answer and explanation
- You can always trust its answers blindly.A model can make mistakes, especially with facts and numbers.
- It is a useful assistant, but important points must be checked. (correct answer)The tool speeds up the work; checking remains the user’s job.
- It understands and feels like a person.A model relies on patterns in text and does not understand in the human sense.
Practical task
Write down 3 places in your life where artificial intelligence is used (phone, translator, recommendations).
- I wrote 3 examples
- I described what each one does in one sentence
