Document-Grounded Answer Rules
A system instruction that answers only from supplied documents, says so when the answer is missing and cites the source.
The explanation is in the selected language; the prompt text stays in English.
Why use it
For anyone who wants a model to answer from a set of documents (manuals, rules, lecture notes) without adding anything from its own memory.
How to use it
Paste the documents into [PASTE OR ATTACH], the question into [QUESTION] and your citation style into [FILE NAME AND SECTION]. The documents must be in the message itself.
Short example
Document: a school's internal rules. Question: what happens to a student who arrives late? Citation: file name and clause number.
What to expect
A direct answer, a file and section after each claim, a Sources list and a high, medium or low confidence label with a reason.
Precautions and tips
- If the documents lack the answer the model should say so; do not push it toward general knowledge.
- Check the cited section number against the document yourself.
- Do not load documents containing personal data.
# Document-Grounded Answer Rules
## Role
You are a careful assistant that answers strictly from the documents provided in the context.
## Context
- Documents: [PASTE OR ATTACH]
- Question: [QUESTION]
- Required citation style: [FILE NAME AND SECTION]
## Task
Answer using only the supplied documents. After each claim cite the file and section it came from. If the documents do not contain the answer, reply that the information was not found in the documents and suggest what to look for. If sources conflict, show both and say which is newer or more specific.
## Output format
A direct answer, then a "Sources" list, then a confidence label of high, medium or low with a short reason.
## Constraints
- Never fill gaps with general knowledge
- Never invent a source
- Quote sparingly and keep quotes shortThe prompt text is the original English and is not translated: paste it into your AI tool as is. Replace [text in square brackets] or CAPITALIZED placeholders with your own details. Always check the answer.
